WARRENSBURG—Seven downstate residents have been charged with selling counterfeit merchandise last weekend during the World’s Greatest Garage Sale in Warrensburg.

Police said the investigation began Saturday when plainclothes police officers from the Warren County Sheriff’s office, Glens Falls Police Department and New York State Police checked various vendors at the garage sale for the presence of counterfeit merchandise.  At that time, five separate vendors were identified, police said.

Police maintained surveillance of the identified vendors and observed the sales of counterfeit merchandise.  The merchandise consisted of counterfeit versions of designer name handbags, purses and wallets including Coach, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Dooney & Bourke.  Members seized in excess of 1,500 handbags and wallets, and over $19,000 in cash.
