Melinda Doolittle Inks Record Deal, Album Due This Fall

Melinda Doolittle, American Idol 6 contestant who finished in third place behind winner Jordin Sparks and runner up Blake Lewis, will be releasing her debut album this fall.
She has recently signed with an independent label, Hi Fi Recordings. The label currently hosts Todd Rundgren and has hosted artists such as Avril Lavigne and Spacehog.
The label was founded in 1995 and was originally a joint venture with Elektra, Arista and Virgin Records.
Last summer, Doolittle traveled to Africa with First Lady Laura Bush and Malaria No More to help distribute a half million bed nets. This May, she was the mistress of ceremonies for the 4th annual Ellie’s Run for Africa and helped raised funds to provide education and health-related assistance to Kenya and South Africa.
The former professional back-up singer from Brentwood, Tenn., has been on tour as part of Dreyer’s Slow-Churned Light Ice Cream American Idol Tour and last November, gave back to her alma mater by performing at the Belmont University’s annual “Christmas at Belmont” concert.
